SECUNDUR design floor in ZOB Munich
The new Central Bus Terminal (ZOB) in Munich at the Hacker bridge was inaugurated on 11 September 2009.

The 7-storey building comprises diverse functional levels. From the bus terminal on street level, escalators lead up to the above 4 levels where gastronomy and retail trades as well as administrative areas are located. This unique concept is the first in Germany incorporating non-aviation areas in modern airports.

Yearly approx. 2,5 Mio. bus passengers and daily approx. 30.000 commuters including citizens of Maxvorstadt as well as employees of the enterprises located in the ZOB facilities, form a solid base of potential customers for the catering and business trade.

The new ZOB passed its first crucial test on occasion of the Octoberfest, when tens of thousands of visitors streamed into the Bavarian capital. Perfectly proven, the SECUNDUR design floor from KORODUR has stood the test under thousands of commuters. For this futuristic project an optically and qualitatively superior design floor was selected. In the atrium and shopping arcades, an area of approx. 1.500 m² of SECUNDUR design floor was installed.

SECUNDUR design floor can be finished either polished (terrazzo-optics) or smoothed (marble-optics). For the ZOB the polished finish in anthracite colour was chosen. Considering the expected high stress demands, the variant SECUNDUR HF "high strength" was decided.

The installation of the SECUNDUR design floor in an average thickness of 25 mm was carried out in combination with KORODUR Bonding Compound HB 5. After proper setting the SECUNDUR surface was smoothed in multiple smoothing steps until the grain structure became visible (terrazzo-optics). The smoothed surface was thoroughly cleaned and chemically sealed to minimise maintenance.

Any KORODUR design floor is unique. The ZOB project up to date is incomparable in Germany. Its excellent location, its transport connections and its outstanding architecture will make it another landmark of Munich.
